Water in your home changes everything in a matter of minutes. When a heavy storm hits Bellwood and the dense clay soil holds onto that moisture, your basement can go from dry to soaked before you realize what is happening. If you are facing a Water Damage Restoration project, you need a clear plan so you do not get overwhelmed.
The Water Damage Restoration Timeline: What Days Look Like
Most property owners want to know how fast things will get back to normal. Every Water Damage Restoration job is different, but a standard timeline helps keep expectations realistic.
Days one and two are all about extraction and drying. Coastal Restoration gets the standing water out, pulls up ruined carpet pads, and sets up industrial air movers and dehumidifiers. Days three through five usually involve monitoring moisture levels and tearing out materials that cannot be saved, like wet drywall or warped baseboards. Rebuilding takes the final week or two, depending on supply delivery and the extent of the damage.
What to Expect While the Crew is Working
Having a Water Damage Restoration crew inside your house is not always comfortable. You will hear the constant hum of industrial drying equipment day and night. It gets loud, and your electricity bill might spike a bit. Coastal Restoration tries to keep things contained, but expect some plastic dust barriers and temporary walkways while we work on your property.
How to Prepare Your Home
Before the team arrives, take care of a few simple things if it is safe to do so. Move family photos, electronics, and small valuables away from the affected damp zones. Turn off your HVAC system if water got near the vents to prevent spreading mold spores. Clear a path from the main entrance down to the basement so crew members can haul equipment in and out without tripping over clutter.
Questions to Ask Before Signing a Contract
Do not just hire the first contractor who knocks on your door after a heavy rain. Ask these key questions first:
- Are you licensed and certified for structural drying and Water Damage Restoration?
- Do you work directly with my insurance company on the claim details?
- What is your estimated timeline for Water Damage Restoration from start to finish?
- Can you provide local references right here in Bellwood?
